Transforming Homes with Solar Power, Mersham

At Kingsnorth Electrical Ltd., we recently completed an exciting domestic solar installation project, transforming a home into an energy-efficient powerhouse. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we did it and what it means for the homeowners.

The Project

Solar Panels: We installed 18 JA Solar JAM54D-40-445-LB-TS panels, each producing 445W. These panels are designed for high efficiency and durability, providing a total system output of 8kW. This means the homeowners can generate a significant portion of their electricity directly from the sun, reducing their reliance on the grid and lowering their energy bills.

Inverter and Optimisers: To convert the DC power generated by the panels into usable AC power, we used a SolarEdge home hub 6kW inverter. Each panel is also equipped with an optimiser, ensuring maximum energy production by mitigating any impact from shading or other issues that could affect performance.

Battery Storage: A 10kW SolarEdge battery was installed to store excess energy produced during the day. This stored energy can be used during the night or on cloudy days, providing continuous power and further reducing dependence on the grid.

Monitoring and Protection: We included a Mobus monitoring unit with 25 years of free monitoring. This system allows the homeowners to track their energy production and usage in real-time, giving them complete control over their energy consumption. Additionally, we installed bird protection mesh to safeguard the panels from potential damage and ensure longevity.

Additional Features

Scaffolding and Mounting: We provided scaffolding for safe and efficient installation. The panels are mounted using the Esdec mounting rail, a robust and reliable system that secures the panels firmly in place.

Registration and Compliance: We handled the registration with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and dealt with UK Power Networks (UKPN) to ensure the installation meets all regulatory standards and operates seamlessly with the local grid.

Car Charger and Hot Water System: To enhance the homeowners' eco-friendly lifestyle, we installed a Myenergi non-tethered Zappi Car Charger, enabling them to charge their electric vehicle using solar power. We also integrated a Myenergi Eddi hot water system, which uses excess solar energy to heat water, maximising the use of generated power.

Backup Interface: Finally, a SolarEdge backup interface was included to ensure the home remains powered during outages, providing peace of mind and continuous energy supply.

This installation not only boosts the home’s energy efficiency but also significantly reduces its carbon footprint. By utilising cutting-edge solar technology and smart energy management systems, the homeowners of this property can enjoy clean, renewable energy, lower electricity bills, and a more sustainable lifestyle.
